The Esteemed trainer, big day prep!
It’s been another busy and rewarding week across the Emris Racing team, with updates coming in from Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Northamptonshire, Berkshire and even Ireland. As always, thank you for taking the time to read these weekly round‑ups — they remain one of my favourite parts of the job, and I’m glad so many of you enjoy following the journey. A New Arrival Settling In Nicely Details coming soon! The week began with a catch‑up at D & K Racing, where our newest pu

New arrivals in more ways than one!
Happy Sunday to all. What a week — and not just the sort that keeps you on your toes, but the sort that keeps you well and truly out of your stirrups. Silverhill Freya (Freya) finished up at jumping school with Marcus Foley. She jumped well and was a very willing pupil — the sort of student who would have been top of the class if there were gold stars for good manners. She only needed a little brush‑up as she has jumped fences in her PTPs. Freya Arrives at Tom Lacey's She arr

Jumping School, The snip and sales!
Good afternoon, I hope you’re all well. It’s been a busy week on both the personal and professional fronts. A Personal Note The week began with something far more important than racing: my wife underwent a major operation. It’s a sensitive matter, so I won’t go into details, but I’m relieved to say it was a success. She’s now back home and recovering, and we’re hoping that continues smoothly. Ellie & Freya – Jumping School Week Two of our fillies, Just Passing Bye (Ellie) and

Finishing touches, Racing names, Big yearlings and Goodwood!
Hello everyone and welcome to another weekly blog! We kicked things off with the syndicate poll to choose a racing name for our 3‑year‑old Passing Glance filly, affectionately known as Ellie. There were lots of thoughtful suggestions, and narrowing them down to four was no easy task. We wanted something that paid homage to her late sire Passing Glance, and every shortlisted name reflected that beautifully. The winning choice, however, went one better—honouring both her sire a

Jumping plans, stepping up work and super race results!
This week’s update is a little more video‑focused than usual — picture lovers, don’t worry, your favourite snapshots will return next week. Ellie – Stepping Up a Gear Our 3‑year‑old filly Ellie has taken another step forward in her preparation. She had her flu jab earlier in the week, so enjoyed a couple of quieter days, but she’s now back into her work and moving beautifully. Ellie stepping up her work I caught up with Katie from D&K Racing, who confirmed that Ellie will hea

Catch up, Work begins and record weeks
It’s been a busy and rewarding week, kicking off with a great catch‑up with Tom Lacey. He’s genuinely excited to welcome Silverhill Freya (affectionately known as Freya) to his yard in just a few short weeks. Her holiday has flown by, and she’s already back in work with D&K Racing, trotting around their mile‑long sand canter. She’ll have a couple more weeks of steady build‑up before heading to Marcus Foley for a jumping brush‑up. Her jumping is already solid, so it’ll be more

The Esteemed Trainer, Holidays and Capital Shares!
It’s been another busy and rewarding week across the Emris Racing team, with plenty happening both on the training front and behind the scenes. I hope you’ve all had a great week yourselves. While the football hasn’t exactly been inspiring, reaching a World Cup semi‑final is no small achievement. A huge test awaits, but we go into it with optimism. A Morning at Ravenswell Farm with Fergal O’Brien Monday began with a very early start and a trip to Ravenswell Farm to see Fergal

Progress, Pyrotechnics, and Plenty to Look Forward To
It’s been an eventful week across the Emris Racing universe — the sort of week that reminds you horses, farms, and life rarely run in straight lines. Ellie — Building Toward Ravenswell Ellie, our 3‑year‑old GBB filly, has taken her return to work in her stride after a well‑earned break following her education with the excellent team at D&K Racing. She’s certainly not one to be caught napping — straight back into the swing of things and showing plenty of promise. She’s current

The single worst week in my life! (And I’m Still in the Race…)
Hi All, I hope everyone is doing well. Firstly, an apology — the title is a little dramatic and admittedly a touch clickbait, which I’m usually not a fan of. But you’re out of the stalls now, so you may as well stay the trip. Every year, the seven‑day stretch between the 22nd and 29th of June is the most stressful on my calendar. It’s both my wife’s and my youngest daughter’s birthdays — my daughter’s is actually today (hence the lateness of the blog) — so it’s a week where I

Teeth, open days and a very special visit!
Good morning or afternoon wherever you’re reading from. And a happy Fathers day to all the Dad's! We regularly see visitors to the blog from all over the world, including: United States, Sweden, Malaysia, Ireland, and of course the UK. It still feels surreal that people take the time to read my ramblings, and I’m genuinely humbled by it — so thank you. The readership isn’t huge, but it’s wonderfully diverse, and the whole point of these blogs is to give our members as much be

Expensive horses, an owners visit and updates.
A quieter week on paper… but certainly not in reality. While things may have looked calmer from the outside, it’s been another full and productive week for us at Emris Racing. The sales season continues at pace. Last week saw one of the major fixtures of the year — the Goffs Arkle Sale in Ireland, running from Tuesday through to Friday evening (including Part 2). The top lot went for a cool €275,000 to Gordon Elliott… just a touch above our budget, of course. We shortlisted s

A new trainer, Plans confirmed and updates from the yards.
What an exhilarating week it's been, packed with excitement on multiple fronts! Let's kick things off at home. You might remember my wife's adventures from last week. I'm thrilled to announce that her surgery was a success, and she returned home at the start of the week to begin her recovery. Just in time for me to be out during the daytime for a few days—perhaps not ideal, but absolutely necessary. The highlight of the week was organizing a trainer for our newest team member

Who doesn't love a grey? Updates and Operations!
It's been a bit of a whirlwind week! I alluded to it last week, but I can confirm a new horse has joined the team, and what a beauty she is! This stunning 4-year-old grey filly is a half-sister to Grade 3 runner-up Kamyador and 8-time winner Peejaybee. Her siblings boast impressive RPRs of 108, 130, and 132. What a beauty! She is sired by Beaumec De Houelle, who has made an outstanding start in his stud career. During the 2025/26 season, he ranked 5th among the top NH sires i

Sales season, Holidays and Heat!
If I were to say it has been a quiet week, that would be a big lie, but for the horses, it has been a quiet week! Over at Charlock Stud, Graham and Carla have taken a well-deserved holiday following another very successful foaling season for them. It was lovely seeing more and more newborns on each of my visits. I hear they made a new friend on their travels by the name of Jenson; check Carla's social media for more on that! They have arrived home now, and I'm looking forward

Worms, Sales & Sire's!
This time of year is generally pretty quiet on the National Hunt side on the outside. A lot of horses are starting their breaks, and while there is still racing, the schedule is not as active over the next few months. This is, however, still a very busy time behind the scenes, and a lot of stores, horses in training, and point-to-point sales are held. Between now and the end of June, there are at least 11 days of these sales in the UK and Ireland alone, not to mention the onl

New photography, Big Progress and Sale season!
For some time, I've downplayed my photography abilities. I hope you'll notice a significant improvement in this blog. Some time ago, I purchased a new camera, but two different ankle injuries prevented me from using it. However, this past week, I've been able to explore the yards and capture new photos with it! Feedback is always appreciated ;) It has been a very positive week. We began with some behind-the-scenes tasks and administrative work, which might not be the most exc

End of the season
Well, another National Hunt season has come to its conclusion, marking the end of a thrilling chapter in the world of horse racing. Congratulations to both Dan Skelton and Sean Bowen for their remarkable achievements in winning their respective titles. Their hard work, dedication, and skill have truly shone throughout the season, showcasing the best of what National Hunt racing has to offer. This season has been nothing short of eventful, characterized by a series of unexpect

The NH season may be coming to a close but it's all go at Emris Racing!
Our 3-year-old filly sired by the talented Passing Glance is progressing really well! Over the past few weeks, she has been making fantastic strides in her Pre-training regimen, showcasing her natural athleticism and grace as she canters around the gallops. She has also been doing plenty of road work and has been very impressive. We are eagerly anticipating her transition to Fergal O'Brien's esteemed training yard later this year, especially considering the outstanding succes

Join us at the races!
An interesting week began with a chat with Huntingdon Racecourse to go over the plans for our involvement with their syndicate race day on the 19th of May. We have confirmed our trade stand, which is great, and we are keen to support the racecourse with some further involvement, so we are hoping to have news on this in the next week or so. To celebrate our trade stand, we are offering all members a free ticket to the races at the course on the 19th. If you would like to come

Around the yards!
It's been an exciting week. I forgot to mention last week, last Saturday I took my wife and young daughter to Huntingdon Races. Their Easter raceday is always a really enjoyable day out for the family, especially kids. There is so much on offer there to keep them entertained, including a petting area, which was a particular favorite of my daughter's, lawn games, tractors, inflatables, and live music after the racing. While we didn't stay for the music, we had a very enjoyable
