Jumping plans, stepping up work and super race results!

This week’s update is a little more video‑focused than usual — picture lovers, don’t worry, your favourite snapshots will return next week.
Ellie – Stepping Up a Gear
Our 3‑year‑old filly Ellie has taken another step forward in her preparation. She had her flu jab earlier in the week, so enjoyed a couple of quieter days, but she’s now back into her work and moving beautifully.
I caught up with Katie from D&K Racing, who confirmed that Ellie will head to Marcus Foley on the 3rd of August for a week-long jumping course. Although the plan for her first season is to run in bumpers, we always like our horses to gain jumping experience early — it gives us flexibility and opens the door to junior hurdles should we wish when she joins Fergal O’Brien’s Ravenswell Farm in a couple of weeks.
Ellie’s syndicate members have also been busy sending in racing name suggestions. I’ll be selecting a shortlist this week for the final vote. If you want to be part of the naming process, now’s the time — voting closes at the end of next week. 2.5% shares are just £85/month — get yours HERE!
Silverhill Freya – Thriving and Intelligent as Ever
Silverhill Freya is thriving back in work and trotting away nicely. Her workload will increase this week. She’ll also be joining Ellie at Marcus Foley’s, though she only needs a refresher given her previous PTP experience. Freya is a very intelligent mare with a natural jumping instinct, so this will simply add more polish.
The current plan is for her to go novice hurdling this season. She has plenty of potential, and I’m excited to see her progress.

Charlock Stud – A Big Week for the Yard
It was an excellent end to the week at Charlock, with two horses bred at the yard putting in standout performances:
It’s Life broke her maiden at Salisbury
Two Tribes ran a superb race to finish 2nd in the Class 2 Moët & Chandon International Stakes — he now heads to Goodwood

Yearlings – Thriving Through the Summer
Our three yearlings at Charlock continue to thrive. The extended dry spell has affected the grass quality slightly, so they’re all on a balancer feed to top up the vitamins currently lacking. They also enjoyed a hoof trim this week and behaved impeccably.
Sales preparation for the flat horses is now underway, which means some of their friends will soon be heading off to begin their futures on the track.
We also welcomed Joe to Paul’s syndicate. Paul is an impeccably bred colt (not for much longer…), by Logician, who has made a perfect start to his National Hunt stallion career — his first and only runner is unbeaten in two and already a Listed winner. Paul’s dam, J’Y Vole, is a multiple Grade-winning mare, and his half-sister won on debut impressively and is targeting black type this season.

National Racehorse Week – Charlock Open Day
Charlock Stud will be opening its doors for National Racehorse Week, and demand has been so high that Carla has had to release more places after the initial slots filled instantly.
If you’re attending, make sure you come and see me in the main barn. All three of our yearlings will be in — and they’ll be more than happy to receive a cuddle.
