Hello all, thank you for joining me for another weekly roundup. A busy week and a very positive week!

Ravenswell Farm – Just Passing Bye (Ellie)

Thank you for the picture Roy!
Thank you for the picture Roy!

We start at Ravenswell Farm where Just Passing Bye has resumed work. It is only light ridden work at this stage, and we will slowly build her up being mindful that she is only a 3-year-old and she has plenty of time to develop. Fergal sent over a video update for her members with her trotting around the menage. She looks incredible, with a very shiny coat which is always a good indication of health. She is bright and alert and really does enjoy working. I was a little concerned she may get bored on her little mini-break, but it has done her the world of good, and we are very happy with her and her prospects. One of her syndicate members Roy went over to Ravenswell during the week and got some very nice photos of her that he shared with me and the rest of her members.

Her sire the late Passing Glance has had some very positive results in the last week with 3 winners and 4 places from just 13 runners in England, over 50% in the places which is a very nice return. He is a sire we like and being the Champion British NH Sire for last season (By prizemoney) is a testament to the quality of his offspring. Ellie as she is known is a lovely example, very well put together and a horse with a fantastic temperament and a good mind. I personally think she will improve the further she travels but she is not slow and there is no reason she cannot be competitive in a bumper which is the route she will take this season. We had hoped that she would be on the racecourse around about this kind of time but due to her enforced break that plan has evolved and if all goes to plan she will be out a little later in the season and she will give her members some good days out. At just £35 per month for 1%, she is almost a no-brainer for anyone wanting to experience racehorse ownership. You can get yours here: www.emrisracing.com/ellie

Kingwood House Stables – Maisie (Blue Bresil filly)

Maisie looking sublime!
Maisie looking sublime!

Over at Kingwood House Stables, Masie, our Blue Bresil filly is having a great time on her break. During the week Katie sent over some pictures, and I know I am biased but she looks utterly stunning! She is such a strong filly for just a 3-year-old, and I know Nicky Henderson is excited for her to join the team at Seven Barrows later in the season, she is likely to have a run or 2 in bumpers starting around April. She is having the rest of this month on in the field and we will slowly build her up; she will also pop over to the world-renowned Marcus Foley for her introduction to jumping. Just Passing Bye and Silverhill Freya both had brief visits to Marcus prior to going into full training and he did a magnificent job with both.

During the week we also finalised and sent over to her members her breaking-in report which as you would expect was glowing! She is very forward and really likes to get on with things. She has displayed a very willing attitude and a very good mind working things out almost before David and Katie could show her!

All the signs with her have been positive to date and when you also mix in her pedigree, she is very much a filly you want on your side! Blue Bresil really needs no introduction as a sire, everyone knows his most famous son but it is his daughters that I looked at when it comes to a pedigree and if Maisie can be half the horse of L’Autonomie the 15-time graded winning daughter we will all be very happy, adding in Grade 3 winning Miss Salsa Blue and Listed winners Jasmine Bliss, Yosille & Blue Las, all signs point to successful daughters. On the track Blue Bresil has also had a good week with 4 winners and 7 places from just 18 runners a very good return! When you look at her dam side things only get better, Her Dam an unraced daughter of a half-sister to the legendary Kicking King has had 6 runners and 5 are winners! One of them Magic Daze is a Grade 2 and Listed winner! Her syndicate members have started suggesting racing names for her with some very good options already. If you would like the opportunity to be a part of her race naming get your share before it is too late! 2.5% shares are available for just £650 with nothing else to pay until she goes to Nicky Henderson’s yard! You can get yours here: www.emrisracing.com/maisie

Cottage Field Stables – Silverhill Freya (Freya)

We also had our syndicate morning in the week over at Cottage Filed Stables where members got to see Silverhill Freya do her morning work and explore Tom Lacey’s exceptional yard, If there is one thing that was mentioned the most by members it was the word “beautiful” which was used to describe both Freya herself but also the yard! It really is a picturesque setting and a wonderful place to spend time; the rolling hills and scenery is sublime and the views magnificent! Freya lapped up the attention she got with lots of fuss and cuddles prior to her work. She worked brilliantly and looks to be really enjoying herself. She is a lot stronger than she was 6 months ago and is developing very nicely. I honestly believe that over a more favourable trip she can win races and she will give her members some enjoyable days out. We are not far off turning our attention towards the fixture list to find suitable races for her debut. The big issue is the same issue most trainers/owners are having at the moment and that is almost everywhere is rock hard ground, although her final PTP run was on good ground it certainly looked to be on the softer side of good so all of her members have been tasked with performing rain dances at every given opportunity. There is some rain due next week but I’m not sure there will be enough to dramatically change things, but I don’t think we will be waiting too long to see Freya on the racecourse.

She is by a very promising sire in Beaumec De Houelle who doesn’t get that many runners outside of France and indeed only had 5 runners last week in England and Ireland combined over the last 7 days. That said, last year he was the 4th top young NH sire in Europe, so his offspring do perform very well. Freya is also our most affordable racing syndicate at just £34 per month for 1% lease shares, If you have the budget, we have a couple of 5% capital shares on offer for just £25 plus £170 per month which is a £300 saving another no-brainer if you want some good days out and a horse that we believe can win races over a more favourable trip. For the capital share offer contact me on 07714 940076 for details of how to claim your £300 discount or for smaller shares you can get yours here: www.emrisracing.com/freya

A couple of recommendations

I don’t do this often, but two establishments deserve a mention this week

Walton Hall Hotel & Spa My wife and I stayed here the night before the syndicate morning. I’ve stayed before and always found it excellent. It could use a lick of paint, but the grounds are beautiful, and at £60 for the night, it’s exceptional value.

The Butchers Arms, Woolhope After the yard visit, we headed here for lunch. The staff were brilliant, the food even better, and the portion sizes enormous. Very reasonably priced — but do arrive hungry!

Charlock Stud – (Paul, Emma & Pam)

Over at Charlock Stud it has been a busy week with a couple of horses going to the sales which found some very nice results which is a testament to the hard work, care and experience of those at the yard, Graham and Carla were delighted with the results, We are very proud to be the National Hunt contingency at the yard and our 3 are real superstars, Paul our Logician colt enjoyed a little inside time this week and kindly posed for some photos modelling our Emris Racing Scarves (Get yours in the shop on the website). All 3 yearlings were measured out for their winter rugs as the temperature begins its descent. We are very happy with them all and they are growing very nicely and getting stronger. All 3 look to have bright futures ahead of them!

Until Next Time!
