Setbacks, parades and breaking-in progress!

I hope you’re doing well, and as always, thank you for reading my ramblings.
We’ve had an influx of Swedish website visitors this week — something I genuinely cannot explain, but nevertheless… välkomna!
This week’s blog might feel a little all over the place because it hasn’t been the most straightforward of weeks, but let’s dive in.
Blue Bresil Filly – Straightforward Progress
One horse who does seem very straightforward (see what I did there) is our wonderful Blue Bresil filly. She’s still without a stable name — I have one in mind, but I’m not fully sold on it, so suggestions are very welcome.
She has now been sat on, ridden, and cantered. Exceptional progress. David really likes her, and she’s shaping up to be a very exciting filly.

Charlock Stud – Yearlings Thriving
The yearlings at Charlock Stud are thriving. I visited this week with my sister and brother‑in‑law (not technically married, but it’s easier).
Paul, our Logician colt, appears to be in the middle of another growth spurt. He grows, fills out, grows again, fills out again — so right now he looks a little lean, but give him a week or two and he’ll be massive again. He’s due a vet check later this month as we prepare for gelding. I must admit I wasn’t impressed when he took a carrot from James after refusing mine for ages… though he redeemed himself with cuddles and eventually took one from me.
Emma, our Tirwanako filly, continues to impress everyone. Carla is so taken with her she may now be her favourite of the bunch. I’m slightly overwhelmed by her progression. She was a real risk — no one wanted her because of her size — but I had a feeling and said to Jerry, “Let’s do it.” She had plenty of positives, and I’m delighted with how she’s come on. Her bond with Pam has been huge for her mentally, and she’s even a bit protective of Pam… despite Pam being the biggest horse in the field by some margin.
Speaking of Pam, she’s always been beautifully put together and has grown on really well. She’s incredibly sweet and loves a good head scratch (when Emma allows it). Her build is phenomenal — there must be something in the water down at Charlock.
Ravenswell – Ups and Downs
It’s been a mixed week at Ravenswell.
Just Passing Bye (Ellie) did a fantastic piece of work early in the week, ridden by Liam Harrison up the hill gallop. She was so good she even surprised Fergal. She’s been up the hill before but struggled a little, so we focused on extra core work beforehand — clearly it paid off.
Later that day she went out for some R&R but trotted up lame behind. The vet saw her a day or two later and she had improved significantly. She’s been given the rest of the week off and will be reassessed Monday. The vet suspects a slight pulled muscle — nothing long‑term — but as always, welfare comes first. Hopefully she gets the all‑clear and we can ease her back into work. Frustrating after such good progress, but
racing is full of ups and downs.
Cottage Piece Stables - Freya the star!
Silverhill Freya also had a minor setback. Her work has been great, but she took a bang on her fetlock last weekend. She had antibiotics and missed a day of work, but was back at it later in the week and is now A1 again. Tom and the team don’t think it will take her long to get fit, so we’re now looking at the fixture list for suitable options. Freya also took part in the annual parade of horses at the yard. I was delighted to be invited — thank you to Tom, Cameron, and the whole team for their hospitality, along with the fellow guests who were all very easy to talk to. I think everyone enjoyed themselves; I certainly did.
