Progress, Pyrotechnics, and Plenty to Look Forward To

It’s been an eventful week across the Emris Racing universe — the sort of week that reminds you horses, farms, and life rarely run in straight lines.
Ellie — Building Toward Ravenswell
Ellie, our 3‑year‑old GBB filly, has taken her return to work in her stride after a well‑earned break following her education with the excellent team at D&K Racing. She’s certainly not one to be caught napping — straight back into the swing of things and showing plenty of promise.
She’s currently trotting two miles on the sand gallop to strengthen her core before we gradually build her up to cantering. Slow and steady wins the race at this stage — we’re laying the foundations, not asking her to hit top gear just yet.
Once she’s ready, she’ll head over to Marcus Foley for her first taste of jumping. She’ll start with loose schooling so she can work things out for herself, then progress to a jockey on board. After that, it’s straight to Fergal O’Brien’s Ravenswell Farm in early August — the next big step in her journey and where we hope she’ll really start to show her class.

Freya — Holiday Mode (For Now)
Freya, our stunning grey 4‑year‑old filly, is still enjoying her holiday. She started her break a little later than Ellie, so she’s getting an extra week to fully unwind and enjoy some well‑deserved R&R.
Having already seen a PTP track, she won’t take as long to build back up, and the downtime will do her the world of good. She’ll follow a similar programme to Ellie and will also visit Marcus Foley — though in her case it’s more of a brush‑up than a schooling session. After that, she’ll head to Tom Lacey’s Cottage Field Stables.

Charlock Stud — Fire, Fortitude, and Future Plans
The real drama this week came from Charlock Stud, where a muck heap decided to spontaneously combust. And not a small one either — a proper blaze. Thankfully, it is well away from the horses and main yard.
As you’ll see in the video, Graham wasted no time jumping into the tractor to stop the fire spreading. Quick thinking, cool head. The fire brigade reckon it’ll smoulder for about a month, which tells you everything about the scale.
Elsewhere on the yard, the yearlings are thriving — growing fast, enjoying life, and benefitting from the slightly cooler weather.
