Freedom, Conversations and Opportunities!

I did say last week that I was expecting this week to be a quieter week! How wrong was I!
It started with an email, I reached out to the breeder of our newest yearling "Paul", Bryan Mayoh. More just to let him know that he was back living in England and to invite him to see him if he would like to. That email turned into a phone call and a very good conversation culminating in an invitation.
"Paul" was bred at Shade Oak Stud in Shropshire where his Dam (Multiple Graded race winner J'Y Vole) and Sire (St Ledger winner Logician) both reside. Bryan owns J'Y Vole and co-owns Logician and he has very kindly invited me to go up to Shropshire to visit both (along with some of the others that are there). It's an invitation I couldn't refuse and I will be looking forward to organising that in a few weeks.

Bryan seems a really nice guy and we had a good conversation about what we are doing and the plans moving forward. He is very well known in the breeding world and has bred some lovely horses such as Sizing John, Anythingforlove and Lifeboat Mona to name just a few. Here's hoping "Paul" can join that list!
Speaking of "Paul", he has settled in really well at Charlock Stud. So well in fact that he is already living out and enjoying being a horse. Although already technically 1 year old (all thoroughbreds officially age up on 1st Jan each year) "Pauls" birthday is on Tuesday (24th Feb), making him the oldest of our horses. He will get some special treats!

"The Girls"; "Emma" & "Pam" are doing well, "Pam" has had the sniffles but seems to have kicked that now, "Emma" has been ready to live out for a little while but she has been keeping "Pam" company while she recovered. They have developed a really close bond and are almost inseparable, wherever one is you can be sure the other is close by. I have been delighted with "Emma's" progress, she is really growing into herself and has almost caught up with "Pam" in terms of size and has such a sweet personality.

Now that "Pam" has kicked the snots both girls are now celebrating their freedom out in a field with a host of other yearling fillies where they appear to be having an absolute blast as you can see in the video below. Kudos if you can spot which ones they are!
I was over at Charlock on Friday to see them all, though I must say they were far too interested in being out than coming to me for a cuddle! In their defence they probably thought I was going to take them in as I'd only seen them in their stables before that so I probably would have made myself scarce if I didn't want to go in! I did as a young lad haha.
It was a really worthwhile trip as I got the opportunity to sit down with Carla to discuss plans and I'm giving you all a really early heads up... In the Spring, I am hoping to host a completely free yard day that is open to anyone! With a parade and the opportunity to get some horsey snuggles with our horses along with some other mares and FOALS at the yard along with an optional tour of the yard and grounds. If you would be interested in coming along do let me know and I will reserve you a space. We will be limited on numbers so get your place booked early! More details will be released in due course as the plans become clearer.
I also took great pleasure in sharing the below picture with Carla where her bobble hat appears to be sitting on a horses bottom! Believe it or not but Carla is actually under the hat!

I arrived home from my day at the yard to an email from another highly respected breeder with another potentially exciting opportunity. Discussions ongoing on that so you may hear more in the next few weeks.
Until next time!
