Expensive horses, an owners visit and updates.

A quieter week on paper… but certainly not in reality.

While things may have looked calmer from the outside, it’s been another full and productive week for us at Emris Racing.

The sales season continues at pace.

Last week saw one of the major fixtures of the year — the Goffs Arkle Sale in Ireland, running from Tuesday through to Friday evening (including Part 2). The top lot went for a cool €275,000 to Gordon Elliott… just a touch above our budget, of course.

We shortlisted several on Thursday, though only one returned to the ring unsold and was worth a closer look. We’re not actively seeking another horse right now, but as always, if the right opportunity presents itself, we’ll be ready.

Next up is the Tattersalls Derby Sale — another three‑day marathon. Our longlist is complete, and we’ll see how the week unfolds.

A special visit to Charlock Stud

It was a pleasure to welcome one of our premium share owners to Charlock Stud this week to meet his horse in person. He also enjoyed a full tour of the stud and met our two yearling fillies.

A big thank‑you to Molly, who was brilliant with us throughout the visit.

We also bumped into Carla and Graham as they were heading off to a family wedding — we hope they had a wonderful day, and we send our congratulations to the happy couple.

Yearling updates

The yearlings are thriving, and it was lovely to see how content they all are.

  • Paul could barely contain himself — he trotted back to his friends with a proper gallop when we returned him to the field. Plans are progressing well for his gelding, and he’ll head to Lambourn towards the end of the year to be broken in by the excellent D&K Racing team.

  • Pam is looking fantastic. Most of her winter coat has now gone, and she’s really flourishing.

  • Emma, meanwhile, is hanging onto the last of her fluff, but she’s grown on tremendously. Being a very late foal, she’ll be given the time she needs to mature physically before starting work. At the rate she’s growing, she’s going to be a big mare, so patience will be key.

The older fillies on holiday

I visited the older girls in Lambourn on Tuesday. Both have clearly taken full advantage of the lush grass and are in great condition. "Ellie" appears to be a big fan of rolling around in the mud too!

They’ve still got a few weeks left on their holidays. Ellie will likely come back in a little earlier than Freya, as Freya’s break started later following her Point‑to‑Points and her trip through the sales ring.

A long‑awaited visit finally arranged

We’ve also finalised plans for something I’ve been looking forward to for quite some time — a visit to Shade Oak Stud next week.

I’ll finally have the chance to meet Logician and J’Y Vole, the parents of our colt Paul. Both were exceptional racehorses, and it will be a real privilege to see them in the flesh.

Until next time.
