Escape attempts, Sales, Visits and a New launch!

The week started with a visit to Charlock Stud to see how our 2 yearling fillies were settling in, My wife and 4-year-old daughter joined me to meet them too which was lovely!

What a difference a few days has made. I was at the Stud on Thursday to welcome the girls off the lorry and I can say that they have settled in beautifully and are the best of friends! "Emma", our Tirwanako yearling filly is an utter sweetheart who is a big fan of head scratches. Tiranako got another winner last Thursday with Keno Black winning a 2m Maiden Hurdle at Lingfield.

"Emma" "Pam"

There was a moment the day before when while out in the field "Pam" decided she was already running the Cross Country Chase when she jumped over a wall taller than her stable door! I mean, it's a good indication that she will be a good jumper but I'd certainly rather she didn't at least until she really needs to!

The infamous wall!
The infamous wall!

Tuesday saw a visit to a yard in Lincolnshire for a look around; of course some fusses of more horses and A fabulous looking foal who was very inquisitive! Alongside some knowledge and advice gained.

The Eagle eyed among you will have noticed that "Emma" was taken off of our available shares page for a time, this is because she was always earmarked to be the first Emris Club horse! We had some issues in the initial set up of the Emris Club so we decided to make her available for premium shares, The issue was resolved much quicker than expected thus she has now moved across to the club where she is now available for a one-off payment of just £120 which allows you to follow her journey until 30/04/2028! Yes over 2 years! More information on the club can be found HERE.

Wednesday came around and it was Sales day at Goffs... I couldn't make it but our bloodstock agent Jerry McGrath was there (his eye is far better than mine!) I had created a "short" list of some 34 horses which kept Jerry very busy! We came to the conclusion that all bar 3 were out of budget and those 3 we didn't like the physical. Jerry found one he thought would be in budget and he really liked so we went after her... We were the underbidder this time as the lot went for 1 bid more than we wanted to pay. We thought we were going to go home empty-handed.

Jerry called a little later and said that he had spoken to the owner of a lot that was on my original list that went unsold as it didn't reach the reserve and he had somehow got them down to just above our budget for the day! The page is incredible (He is out of a grade 1, two time Grade 2, and Grade 3 winning mare (See below)) and although it was still over our budget for the day we couldn't say no and the extremely handsome chestnut colt will now become part of the Emris Racing family!

When I let Carla at Charlock know to expect a new arrival and showed her the pictures from the sales she said "what a page!" and "oh, he is smart", I'll take that as a first impression!

I had planned to pop over to Charlock Stud to see "the girls" on Friday but with "Paul" being due to arrive on Saturday morning I decided to delay the visit so Friday turned into an admin day!

Saturday quickly came along and an early start to get over to Northamptonshire, It's only an hour from my base, just outside Huntingdon, so it wasn't too early! This time the horse box was delayed so Carla put me to work leading a horse out to the field. It also gave me the opportunity to spend some real time with "Pam" and "Emma". They are both sweet, sweet girls and "Emma" has definitely grown in the last week! "Pam" has had the sniffles, which is common for horses after sales. As a result, she has been confined to the pen for exercise, but she enjoys a good run and buck when inside. Emma has been keeping her company, they will be heading out in the field towards the latter half of next week all being well.

"Paul" arrived and with some convincing made it off the lorry, It's been a pretty stressful week for him having travelled to Ireland from his breeders in Shropshire for the sales and then travelling back meaning he has lost a bit of condition but he will put that back on quickly enough and he appears in pretty fine fettle so should be out in the field next week as well.

I also had the pleasure of meeting David and Caroline Brocklehurst who own the beautiful Charlock Stud, they had been away on holiday but have returned and I was very pleasantly surprised at how hands on they really are! It was great to see and I must say they are lovely people as are everyone at the stud!

Needless to say I forgot it was Valentines Day! Thankfully my wife and I don't really celebrate it, we are both of the opinion that you shouldn't have one day to express your love for another when you can very well do it on any day of the year! If you forgot too but have a cross girlfriend/boyfriend/husband or wife the perfect gift awaits with a share in our club ;)

Longer one this week but not expecting as busy of a week ahead.

Have a great week!
