Education and worms

Another interesting week!

Bryan Mayoh & J'Vole

It started with another conversation with Bryan Mayoh of Eskdale Thoroughbreds, who owns J'Y Vole and co-owns Logician, the dam and sire of "Paul," our yearling colt. J'Y Vole now has a foal at foot and is doing very well. I will be visiting sometime in the next few weeks, which I'm really looking forward to.

"Paul" himself is filling out nicely and has bedded in well with the other colts in the field. He is a really athletic colt and has a great size to him. Logician couldn't have started his sire career any better, and we are very hopeful for his future career. His siblings are doing well on the track, which points to a very exciting path ahead, all being well.

Also on Monday, our new 3-year-old filly by Passing Glance arrived at D&K Racing in Lambourn. She traveled really well from the North East of England, and she is a very sweet filly.

On Tuesday, she began her education with some long reining and wearing a saddle for the first time, where she had a good play.

Katie commented that she is a really good mover, very athletic and free-going. We are looking forward to her going into full training with Fergal O'Brien later in the year. Shares are available; visit her page and get in touch! I'm also really looking forward to going over to the yard to visit her on Tuesday.

With that in mind, an ankle update: it's still pretty sore, but I can walk and drive fine now, so visits can resume. I'll have to be careful, but I'm itching to get out to the yards.

Order Of St George has been on fire recently over the last couple of weeks, picking up no less than 7 winners on the track in that period of time. He is proving to be a very good sire, and we are delighted to have one of his progeny. "Pam" herself is doing well, eating and growing. She hasn't decided to jump any walls recently, which is a relief. The yearling fillies have a huge field to play in, and they are thriving. Her best friend "Emma" is also growing on really well. She was, in comparison to the others, really small being a May foal, but she has caught right up and is starting to overtake a few now. I couldn't be more pleased with her progress.

It was spring worming week for the yearlings at Charlock Stud, and that included our three.

The focus was on redworm and tapeworm at this time of year. With the worming history of the sales horses not being known, they were all wormed on their arrival at the stud.

Then, this week, they were given Equimax, which is an oral gel wormer for horses that combines ivermectin and praziquantel to treat a wide range of gastrointestinal worms, bots, and tapeworms in a single dose to ensure they are clean. In a few weeks, the team at Charlock will do a fecal count, and hopefully, they are clear.

We also wish our trainer Fergal O'Brien the very best of luck later today in Fairyhouse, where he runs Sixmilebridge in the Grade 1 WillowWarm Gold Cup. Safe home.

Until next time.
