The week started reasonably quietly! Monday was always penciled in as admin day this week, We also has some hats delivered that turned out to not be of the desired quality (lesson learned) they came unembroidered so they will get donated to a local charity. More are ordered that have been seen and are of a very good quality so we will have stock of embroidered Beanie hats soon. If you would like one get in touch they will be £10 + P&P (Photos coming soon). We are still waiting for a separate shipment of goodies from Ireland so we chased that, they should be here in the next week or so fingers crossed! Also organised on Monday was a trip to another stud farm later in the week, more on that later...
Tuesday was a big day for one of our horses, in the northern hemisphere horses all age up on January 1st, but "Paul" our big chestnut Logician colt who is out of the excellent multiple graded winning race mare J'Y Vole was foaled exactly a year ago on Tuesday so Carla delivered him some special treats to celebrate. If you were wondering horses in the Southern Hemsphere gain a year on August 1st each year!
Carla from Charlock also gave me a Weatherby's lesson on Tuesday which was very well received although it did cost me, I must say Carla & Graham have been amazing so far. I must annoy the hell out of Carla because I question everything and I mean everything, she is also a sounding board for my crazy ideas and the amount of terribly edited videos I have made her sit through is mind boggling!
Also in the first half of the week I organised for a photographer to come along to the stud soon to take some decent pictures because as you see from these blogs my photography skills are limited at best!
Thursday quickly rolled round and despite some near misses with pot holes it was a very good day! To tell the full story, Goffs every December have the NH Foals sale, I, as you would expect create a longlist of horses for closer examintation. At the 2025 sale that was exactly 100 of the 816 catalouged. After closer inspection that list went down to a shortlist of 23 that I would want to look at at the sale before deciding if they were for us or not. 3 of those were withdrawn so I would have been left with 20. Long story short we didnt buy any from that sale...
I alluded to it last week and at the start of this blog... When I was looking for a home for the horses I would go on to purchase I spoke with many people, one of those was Louise Kemble of The Elms Stud, I'd known of Louise for many years as I owned a share in a syndicate of one of the horses she bred, owned and leased to the syndicate, Blue Bikini, a really tough mare who was sadly taken from us too soon, I'm sure she would have gone on to have a very sucsessful broodmare career.

We had a really good chat back then and she recommended I speak with Carla at Charlock (Charlock was already on my list but this reccomendation almost guaranteed we would go there). Anyway, Last Thursday Louise sent me an email inviting me to The Elms, and I find it hard to believe so I'm sure you will too but one of the horses at her yard was one of the 3 horses that was withdrawn from the Goffs sale on my shortlist! I had to go and have a look, He is a really nice horse but unfortunately he wont be joining the team. Louise and I had a really great chat and there may be opportunities to come from the relationship and I must say Louise is one of the kindest and most honest people I have come across in this industry and is an absolute credit to it!
Following this visit I hopped on down to Charlock Stud, which luckily is only 30 minutes from The Elms Stud, to check in, I'm pleased to say that "The Girls" "Pam" & "Emma" were a little more sociable this week. "Emma" has become somewhat protective of "Pam" even though "Emma" herself is one of the smallest in the paddock, it is lovely to see even if it does make me chuckle a bit. They are both doing really well and "Emma" is still really impressing me with her development!

"Paul" was not as sociable again but he is the newest so probably hasn't learned that I'm not going to take him back inside yet, he also appeared without a head collar on and we have no idea what he has done with that (we might have to start calling him Harry). I mentioned that he lost quite a bit of condition with all the travelling he did in such a small space of time and I am pleased to say you can now visibly see the difference and he is putting that back on nicely. In addition to all the grass in the world he also gets extra feed to help him and I am delighted with how he is looking.
The cherry on top on Thursday was an fabulous page update for "Paul" whose half-sister by Dartmouth (Madeforlovingyou (GB), for the tracker) made her racecourse debut at Wetherby in a 2m junior hurdle against what looked to me some pretty tough opposition Including an unbeaten in 2 starts filly with an RPR of 89 who went off at evens and a JP McManus owned Filly that had won in France in her only start prior. It did look like she was fading to finish 3rd or 4th coming towards the 2nd last but when the penny finally dropped she looked really impressive and won by 2 3/4 lengths and has been given an RPR of 95! Congratulations to trainer Jamie Snowden and all connections!
After all that excitement it was a quiet end to the week on the horse front, Carla and Graham flew out to Dubai on Friday to support a horse Carla bred, Two Tribes who after finishing 2nd last time out in a listed race was running in a Group 3 worth over £145,000. It wasn't to be for Two Tribes this time but there are plenty more big days for him and his owners! Carla and Graham were due back on Sunday but have extended their stay, with whats going on out there we hope they stay safe and we can't wait to welcome them back soon.
Until next week :)
